FIFTY STATES AWAYThe Journey today would be a long but scenic one, some 318 miles took us from Missouri back into the southern portion of Illinois before the days end. Having already had a day at the arcades in Missouri and a day boating in Chicago, Illinois. We have no plans other than to get the miles done, luckily though, as this is a road trip we can still enjoy the freedom of the road and tick off the progress. Originally we were supposed to fly back on the 18th May, but obviously we still have some way to go and we do not plan to end our fifty state crusade just yet. I guess we have some fun and probably expensive rearrangements ahead of us!
With what was supposed to be the end in sight we’ve had numerous discussions on what it’s going to be like to go back home and how we imagine it will feel to complete this adventure. We are very proud of ourselves, not only in terms of the physical demands but the emotional journey we’ve had as well so far. We eagerly await the remaing experiences we have to come.
Missouri has mainly been a quite farming state from what we’ve seen, with endless fields of crops and greenery, The same could be said of this part of Illinois. We were lucky enough to drive through St Louis and of course we spent some time in Chicago, so to see the less hectic side of both of these states has been interesting. It can get pretty remote and because it’s that much bigger than the UK being out in the sticks, really means being miles away from bustling city chaos. Although the mountainous terrain seems to have trailed off there’s still a beauty to the land and we’ve still appreciated the drive.
Kentucky, here we come!
