Day 100! Wohoo!

We woke as tired as we went to bed, but we are so close and we know we will make it to Colorado today! It was time to pack up and hit the road. We had no idea what activities we might be able to take part in so, planned to stop at the welcome centre to see if we could get some ideas.

Blue skies and snow saw us leave Wyoming driving further south and entertaining Colorado. It’s a stunning landscape and we could imagine it being quite the winter sports hub. It wasn’t long until we reached the welcome centre, where unfortunately we did find out that we are in an awkward season to visit this state, too warm for winter too cold for summer. We’ve found this a lot amoungst the northern states and certainly expect more of this to come so we may have to get a bit more inventive with activity ideas.

With the trip to the welcome centre being a bit unfruitful in terms of ideas, although the lovely lady inside gave us a lot of fuss. We decided to head down and do a drive through of Denver to see what the city looked like. It was a tad odd to see the snow dissappear and civilization return and even harder to imagine a city existing in such terrain. The cities in America are so big and the drive to them so desolate that they tend to stand out in the distance a long way before you actually get to them. We arrived and completed a drive by, deciding on the fly to carry on down to the Colorado Springs area as we were both intrigued to see what this popular destination is like.

On the Journey down to Colorado Springs we noticed signs for a town called Manitou Springs and thought this little place might be worth checking out, so off we went, arranging to tuck down here for the night.

Wyoming and Colorado have both been sleepy snowy states a nice change and a good reminder of the serene time we had in Alaska. It’s kind of hard to really express how different we feel in each new state and how the new vibe in each gives us a totally new experience.
