Let the sun shine bright! It was a gorgeous morning a perfect day for our sea going excursion. We headed from Corona to Newport Beach, a beautiful lush green area with a soft sandy beach, we are here to take a short boat ride out to ocean, where we will hopefully see some whales!

We set out on our whale watching excursion, hopeful and excited. The boat ride was a rather choppy affair and I did feel slightly queasy. Our first stop was passing some sun bathing sea lions. There were a few of them crammed on the one buoy, having what looked to be a great sleep!

Sailing further out we picked up a pod of friends! Who were happy to ride along in the wake of the boat, diving and jumping out of the water, something I also managed to film! They looked as if they had a lot of fun as the captain of the boat sped up and slowed down so the magical dolphins got a good ride. It was fantastic, an experience I wish my sister could have enjoyed with us, heading further out our dolphin friends headed off on their other adventures.

We didn’t think the day could get much better but little did we know what was in store! We were incredibly lucky and after a short (still choppy) ride we managed to spot a fine whale! We were taken right up to the magnificent creature who was coming out of the water and sinking back in getting ready for a long dive. He came up right next to the boat several times. Unfortunately I was too short in the presence of the rest of the adults and so didn’t get any pictures of my own of this event 🙁

Finishing our trip and heading back to land we headed off for some Italian food before driving onto Costa Mesa to stay for the night. The day had one last gift, an amazing sunset! What a way to round off our second month in the states.
