Arriving as we did in the western side of Texas yesterday, you notice how it is kind of similar to Oklahoma. Unsurprisingly there is a lot more farm land around this side than the touristy eastern side. However alongside the greenery and brown hues of the surrounding fields are patches of land that are a lot more dusty looking, giving the feeling of heading right into the desert, alongside a more mountainy terrain, how exciting!

After stopping just outside Amarillo in a town called Canyon, we knew that today we had mammoth task on our hands to arrive at our next destination. I had already booked our activity, after a few experiences missing things we thought we wouldn’t risk it. Pre-booking does not always turn out to be a great idea as you then define the path you end up taking and have to miss out on exciting thing you see on the way due to the time constraints. It’s really a double edged sword, but this particular activity was a must do for me and Ben was keen to take part as well.

We drove down through a city called Lubbock, with both of us wanting to do a drive through of this town, we hoped to carry on down and stop just outside the city of Odessa. Upon arriving at Odessa we made the decision to carry on driving and get to the final destination. This meant that we would end up completing a six hour stint of driving time in the car to cover a beastly 410 miles on this part of the journey.

The entire journey was a very pretty drive, particularly after leaving the cities, the place seemed to just expand with copious amounts of scenery, all very different from one another. We spied some of the famed tumbleweed blowing along the side of the road on our journey this morning, which we both thought was a humourous.

We were heading towards a place called Fort Davis, there is not much around as it’s basically half way up a mountain so accommodation is scarce to say the least. It’s a long drive up the mountain and you don’t really see anyone else, which is both nice and odd at the same time. Making it just as the sun was going down was a spectacular sight!
