Day 4 – Philadelphia

After a pleasant dinner last night in Atlantic City NJ, we decided to carry on driving heading on to our next destination. Another evening arrival saw us making it to our next state: Philadelphia PA. It was very spur of the moment but it was yet another wonderous sight as we headed towards the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. We could see the City all lit up leaving us both in awe of the sheer size of the city and just how exciting the arrival to each state has been so far. Feeling rather weary from the days exploration we decided to stop, staying just inside Philadelphia.

With the day dawning we checked out and hit the road again, finally having the chance to drive around the city in the light of day. It was fun to have a look around and familiarise ourselves with the Philly! We made a brief stop off taking in the local cuisine, which proved rather interesting. Consisting of some kind of spicy sausage in a baguette, which turned out to be the other local favourite, besides the Philly cheese steak, this thing was huge! The thought ‘nobody needs this much food’ did cross my mind but we ate it all anyway!

Next on our list was to find a nice place to stay for the night, we were lucky to come across a local B&B: Bella Vista. It turned out to have quite an eccentric and arty design, yet another experience to add to the list! We were rather delighted as we entered the glorious room, brightly decorated and considerably charming. The four poster bed has been the most comfortable thus far of the trip. After making dinner plans for the evening, we rested up for what remained of the day.

As dinner time drew round we got ready, excited to indulge ourselves and visit a place that Ben had earmarked called Victor’s Café, well known from both the Rocky and Creed movies. It was time to have a feast and unbeknownst to us, being in the movies isn’t the place’s only claim to fame, it is also a major opera venue. We were stunned to find that all the waiters & waitresses were trained opera singers. Not only was the food exceptional but during our dinner we were treated to various aria’s, including performances from Orpheus and Verdi. We were also treated to the operatic version of Happy Birthday, which was also quite something! AMAZING!
